New York City July 2012

By Carol and Sharon

This was our first meal and what a very wonderful place-
La Mediterranee
3 prix fix
Me cold cantaloupe and basil soup, mussels, sorbet mango and raspberry
Sharon had tomato and fennel, hamburger and cheesecake
Rose cuts on table window
Seat inside outside. French background music ,
Mediterranean colors nicely done

We had dinner at 48 Lounge, 1221 Avenue of the America's which was very near Rockefeller Center. It was a tapas style place and we  had a cheese plate and Cuban sandwich  incredible wine. Atmosphere was so New York
Today show with Hot Chelle Rae and Nash signed my shirt. Then went to Dean and Deluca, #1 Rockefeller Center for double espresso iced for me Sharon iced. Coffee Lorain quiche and nutella scone.

Bus tour in the rain. It was chilly so we found inexpensive Adidas jackets at Century 21 near Wall Street.  We had lunch at the Blue Planet Grill, 120 Greenwich Street, 10006.
I had mushroom soup grilled chicken and glass of Bordeaux for 14 .99. Sharon had onion soup, veal ravioli and same wine same price.
We did hop on hop off. Went on a manhattan city tour. Got rained on really hard had wine on the pier. We had 2:30 tickets for the 9-11 Memorial and the rain made the experience even more touching. It is an amazing Memorial. Carol left a St. Louis PD K-9 patch and coin with them to include in the musuem that is being built. They are building new towers and the Freedom tower is now again the highest building in NYC. They are working round the clock.
We also walked around Wall Street. There are only a handful of the "Occupy" protestors left and they them pushed completely out of the Wall Street area now.
We later had to get off the bus because of the downpour and we had a glass of wine at the Pacific Grill, 80 South St on the Seaport Pier 17, 10038.

Went back to the starting point and picked up a night tour. Had Allen as our tour guide. We found a little  Greek restaurant tucked away at 141 East 48th St. It is called Avra and we and had the most amazing seafood. Carol had tuna tare tare and  an arugula salad with goat cheese crostinies tomato wedges and balsamic vinagar. Sharon had Arctic char served over crispy spinach. The wine was awesome. We capped the night off with an old fashion manhattan in our hotel bar.

Saturday morning slept in and Headed to Denis and Brian's. Along the way I had a banana from a street vender and we stopped at dean and deluca for iced coffee and Sharon got the nutella scone. Once at Denis' we were treated to a magnificent 180 degree view from their terrace after walking through a designer apartment. We had an asparagus quiche which melted in your mouth bird nest hash browns with the nest being prosutto ham. We talked over a bottle or two of white wine enjoying the view and a lovely breeze. We left after warm goodbyes and set off for the last leg of our city bus tour, uptown to Harlem. We were given free passes for the ny museum of met art. Amazing! Left there and took a stroll threw central park. I was mistaken for a local from a local asking for directions to the free music concert we were headed to ourselves. Funny! A short stay at the park and off we were to get ready for dinner before our show. We ate at Rosie O' Grady's, 800 7th Ave. We both settled on steak, Sharon a filet mignon and me on medallions. Good choice before the show. The theater was right down the street and we walked right in. The seats were high up but good view. The show Jersey Boys was fantastic. After the show we stopped at the Waldorf hotel for an old fashion made with rum.

Sunday we once again slept in. We walked to central station grabbing a banana from the street vender. We boarded the subway heading toward Citibank park to watch the mets play the dodgers. Game was exciting until the dodgers pulled ahead in the 10 inning and won the game 8 to 3. We boarded the subway and headed to the village. We walked around , took pictures at stonewall, took pictures at Christopher park of a lesbian and gay couple. The park itself was home to transient people and pigeons, not very appealing to hang out in. We went to a bar for a drink at xxx and it was friendly and comfortable. After a glass of white wine we set off to explore the neighborhood. We stumbled upon a quaint place Cindy recommended. Buvette was the name. It is located at 42 Grove in the West Village. Although it doesn't sound like much, believe me it was like being taken away to France. The place itself was only 20 feet wide or so but it was filled with quantness. We sat at a very small table fob 2 near the stairs. The place was typically dark and the waitress offers to recite the menu since she saw that we were struggling. She spoke in with a heavy French accent but easy enough to understand. We settled on a nice red wine, procuitto served with halved figs and a generous supply of homemade French bread drizzled with honey. We moved onto the main course of braised rabbit in a typical creams sauce and potatoes. It was served with more of the lovely bread and green beans need I say French? For dessert yes dessert, we had the best chocolate mousses I ever tasted. We took the subway to times square and strolled through for the last time. Sure is enough to keep your eyes stimulated!! Plenty of colorful lights blinking like in vegas. After passing through the crowds, noise and lit up sky we crossed over to the quiet subdued streets and made our way back to our hotel for a glass of wine in the bar. Plenty of people go watch and eavesdrop on for sure.

Monday morning we went back to the today show to catch a glimpse of the stars. We stopped st dean daland for icec coffee and a danish before staking a spot in the today crowd. We got some pretty good ground space for getging there late. We shook hands with Al Roker and Samantha Guthry, Matt was already in London for the Olympics. I took some cool pics and we headed it ghe top of the rock for an awesome view of the city. The time came to face the facts...the trip was coming to an end and we had to pack.
