February 2015 in Key Largo

Stephanie made all the plans for our winter trip to Key Largo. She found a great house to rent on the canal and so on a wintry day, we all managed to get on our flights and head south.

The week was very much about relaxation. We had leisurely mornings and afternoons at the pool. It was a little on the cool side but that can happen in Florida during February. The owners of the house were extremely interesting people. Kim and Thea were a presence as they lived in the other side of the duplex. They were kind enough to take us on on their pontoon boat and shared stories about all the houses along the canal since Kim is a builder and was in on the construction of many.

We had our Valentines Dinner at Snook's Bayside. Snooks had a great location on the gulf side and we ate there three separate times. We also ate at Mrs. Mac's for breakfast and had a dinner at the Conch House. Our last night, we ate at DiGiorgio's Italian restaurant.

The main event was a chance on Wednesday morning to swim with the dolphins. We swam with Dinghy and BB. They pulled us and pushed us. We felt their velvety underbellies and held their handlike flippers. It was an experience that transcends words.

Another fun thing was a boat ride on the African Queen. Dave, the skipper filled us in on the history of the boat and shared lots of movie photos.
