Forest City Iowa to visit the Winnebago Factory May 2015

We took a whirlwind trip to the northern part of Iowa to see where they make Winnebago and Itasca branded RVs. We left on a Thursday morning with Carolyn and Donna, heading north for the eight hour trek. Along the way, we stopped for a picnic lunch in Donnellson, Iowa.

Forest City is a small town, near the Minnesota border and we stayed at the historic Lodge Resort Hotel which was right near the Winnebago campground. Our section of the lodge was horse racing themed. Our room was named "Seattle Slew".
The next day, we toured the factory but not photos were allowed. They truly build or make most of the components that go into a Winnebago including the cabinetry and the furniture. They do buy the chassis and we saw them build from the ground up. After the tour, we went to the local dealership and were able to get inside of a lot of models that we had never seen at the St. Louis RV show.
There was also a great historic display in the lobby and the grounds nearby.

On the way home, the drive took twelve hours because we checked out a number of great Iowa State Parks. Iowa is a beautiful state and someday, we would like to travel around the state for the summer.
