Louisville with the Gamlin Whiskey Society

The trip was a two-day whirlwind. We started on Sunday morning at the Gamlin Whiskey House in the CWE. They served up pineapple whiskey drinks in nice insulated cups. We were also given urine sample cups to use on the bus for our tastings. One of the stand out tastings included a bottle of Ballantines,a Scotch whisky from the fifties.  We also tasted Longbranch, a bourbon that is mesquite and charcoal refined and Rock Oyster, a blended Scotch whisky that was aged 18 years. We played a game called Two Truths and a Lie and all in all, the trip to Louisville was a lot of fun. They had packed us box lunches from the restaurant which were quite good.

Our first stop was Angel's Envy where we toured and tasted. Angel's Envy finishes their bourbons in port casks which I really liked.

After that, we checked into our classic Louisville hotel, the Seelbach and settled into our room.

We looked on Open Table and decided on a nearby restaurant called Bourbon Raw was the place to go for dinner. We had a whiskey flight and a great meal. After dinner we walked around but it was chilly and we were tired so we headed back to the hotel for another tasting.

Tasting at the hotel

The next day, we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and then boarded our bus to head to Lux Row Distillery near Bardstown Kentucky. This is a brand new distillery with a St. Louis connection.
We med that master distillery that personally designed Blood Oath and came home with a signed bottle. Happy Birthday to me a little early.

We then had lunch at the very historic Talbott's Tavern in Bardstown.

Our last stop was Buffalo Trace Distillery. We left for home after that stop and it was quiet and uneventful except for our dinner stop at a classic southern fried chicken chain, Bojangles where we thoroughly overwhelmed the staff. It was not the number of us as we were a small group but it was the fact that one person, our tour coordinator Elizabeth was picking up the tab.
