Gulf Shores for Thanksgiving



This was a wonderful trip with our friends Betty and Cindy. We left St. Louis on a Saturday morning and had a pleasant drive through Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi and then finally Alabama. We stopped for lunch at Subway and had dinner at Wendy's. It was nighttime when we drove through Mobile and while our GPS went crazy, we enjoyed the beautiful buildings and the city lights. It was dark when we arrived and there was a minute of panic that the lockbox for the key was rusted shut. But we got into it and the rental house was absolutely perfect. It was right on the beach.



On Sunday, we went shopping at the Publix Grocery store and  bought some steelhead trout for dinner. 


Monday, we had a picnic at Ft. Morgan. Throughout the week, we saw the Blue Angels practicing since they are based in Pensacola.  We watched the ferry at Ft. Morgan and gawked at all the rental homes out that way. Dinner that night was at the Oyster House, a Gulf Shore classic.

 

Tuesday we had lunch at the Pink Pony. We were able to sit outside on the deck and enjoyed a view of the ocean. On Wednesday, we drove to Orange Beach and Pensacola and had an awesome lunch in Florida. Thursday we had a big Thanksgiving feast at the Hangout. So yes, the trip was all about the food. Cindy brought along some turkey day decorations for our the deck. 

Friday, we had dinner at Bahama Bob's and suddenly, it was Saturday and time to return home. We had lunch at Sonic in Alabama and dinner was a picnic at the Loves lot. The end of the drive home, through Southeast Missouri, was very foggy and we were glad to get home safely.

Gay Games Cleveland - August 2014

We had been waiting for a long time to finally be part of the Gay Games experience. This trip was extra special because we were able to share it with our friends, Betty and Cindy. Prior to even leaving, we did lots of planning and practicing table tennis which was to be our sport. Cindy and I also put together an amazing playlist inspired by all the artists in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. So we finally left on Friday morning, August 8th. I had volunteered to drive first as we headed out of town in Cindy's Ford Escape. We immediately got the music going and what a great time we had on the drive. We played musical seats as we took turns driving and then moved to the back seat to dig into our snacks or take a quick nap. London, Edinburgh, and Paris trip During Aug/Sept 2013

Friday, August 23rd-24th We started our journey on Friday when Carol’s co-worker Joe took us to the airport. We had a late lunch at the Schlafly restaurant and I kept my resolution to try a beer now and again. I actually did a sampler tasting for a change of pace. We flew American on an  MD-80 to Chicago.  From there, we went on American Flight 46  in a BOEING 777, departing Chicago about 7:15 PM and arriving at London Heathrow at 9 AM. There seemed to be a number of Brits on the plane with us. We watched a movie and got some fairly restless sleep. We were just a few minutes late but as we walked off the plane and through customs, we saw Craig was waiting for us. Trip to Palm Springs and San Diego

We had wanted to go to the Dinah Shore weekend in Palm Springs for some time. It is the ultimate lesbian event of the year and we enjoy LPGA golf. It has been featured on the L Word and is not something we wanted to wait and do in our golden years. The weekend started 17 years ago and has been through many changes. As of 2007, there were about 30,000 women who come to Palm Springs and participate in various ways. You can choose the golf tournament as well as different packages of entertainment. We decided to buy the Girl Bar package and steel ourselves for a very busy 5 days. We also decided to follow Palm Springs up with 5 more days in San Diego. So off to Southern California we went.  We landed in San Diego and on Wed. March 28th. We hopped the Enterprise shuttle and picked up our rental car, a gray/green Chrysler Sebring convertible including a Garmin navigation system.
