San Francisco in April

We arrived in San Francisco around 2 PM on Thursday and intended to take an Uber
to the hotel. But when we went to the pick up spot, we had 3 Uber drivers and 2 Lyft
drivers that could not find us. We ended up with a taxi to our hotel, Club Quarters in
the Financial District. Once we settled in, we were anxious to get to the water and took
a walk down to Pier #1 on the bay. That night, we had dinner at Perbacco, a super trendy local filled Italian place. The food was good, the service was t0p notch and the vibe was
very young and filled with IT conversations all around us.

Friday morning, we were up early as we had planned a trip to go to Alcatraz and
then a Cable car tour around the city.




That tour included seeing the Golden Gate bridge from every angle, including walking
half way across it.


Dinner was at the most famous and adorable Cafe Claude.

Saturday morning we headed to the Castro and to a little place called Fable for breakfast.
We then went to the GLBT History Museum followed by a drink at a gay bar called Moby Dick. After that, we walked the hilly streets to Haight-Ashbury and enjoyed seeing the unique architecture of San Francisco.

Later that day, we walked down to Pier 39 and saw the seals.
We had dinnerat Tarantino’s, I had Petrale sole and
Carol had Dungeness crab.


On Sunday, we went to a Giant baseball game at Oracle Park.
On the way, we had breakfast at Bluestone Lane and watched
a movie being filmed.
There was a car with a camera filming the car behind it.
We saw two people walk towards each other multiple times.
The police were there but mum on the name of the movie.



After the game, we went to Ghiradelli chocolate and then the most amazing steak
dinner at 5A5 Steakhouse where we had Wagyu Beef.

May 2017 trip to Lansing, Grand Haven, and Chicago

I wanted to visit my nephew and family but we decided to meet somewhere in the middle since our ultimate destination was Grand Haven. We tried to do an AirBnB for the first time but the host did not follow through on the check-in information leaving us in Lansing with no place to stay after a long drive from St. Louis. We ended up at the Renaissance which turned out to be very nice and for Saturday, it was affordable. We had dinner at Troppo which was a wonderful restaurant on East Michigan Ave. Once we arrived in Grand Haven, we had a great dinner at Snug on the 22nd of May and enjoyed a bottle of Iconic chardonnay, the goat cheese pepper dip, pad thai, scallops, and black bean cakes. We had lunch at BilMar on the 24th, the day we looked at the Dodge Journey that we ended up buying the next day. We are glad we did as BilMar is now closed for good. We celebrated the purchase of the Dodge with lunch at the Lucky Tea Cafe. From there, we drove our new SUV right into downtown Chicag

Mediterranean Adventure Fall 2019

Greece We arrived on Wednesday morning after a long day of travel. Donna had picked us up on Tuesday at 5:30 which gave us some time at the airport to eat and drink before boarding a two hour flight to Toronto.  The international part of the airport in Toronto is really nice and we quickly found a nice place for lunch. We enjoyed burgers and talked to our waitress who commutes in from Guelph. She mentioned she had thought of moving to Miami and we recommended that she stay put in Canada. Once we boarded, we settled in for a nine hour flight. Our movies including one set in Barcelona helped pass the time. Sleep was elusive and thankfully we were in Athens about 30 minutes early. That airport stood in stark contrast to Canada. It was dinghy and disorganized. We showed our passports and collected our luggage. Customs was a non-event. The taxi ride was only exciting when we realized how good it was that we had gotten Euros in St. Louis as the driver didn’t take credit car

Basketball Game at Mizzou

We just had a wonderful trip to see the Mizzou women play Mississippi State in Columbia. MS won but just barely. It was an extremely exciting game and we had a blast. We also got to go to the Broadway Brewery owned by the Duzans. I had a duck egg on a burger and that along with the local goat cheese made for a messy but rich sandwich. The brown ale was nice as was the coffee stout. We could watch the brewing of the beer in a glassed-in section in the  back of the restaurant.  We also ate at Shakespeare Pizza and I really like the dough. With some pizzas, I skip the crust but not this pizza. We drove up to check out Finger Lakes SP which was scenic on a cold winter's day. In the summer, it will not be so quiet. It will be a scene filled with ORVs and motocross races. I  would like to see that but could skip the camping. We also took a spin by the Rock Bridge SP and the Jewel SHS named after the founder of William Jewell College. We stayed at a very nice Wyndham with a boutique hotel
